Even Angels Desire This

PRAY THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WOULD REVEAL THE RELEVANCE OF THE GOSPEL.

Read 1 Peter 1:3-2:4. Reflect on 1 Peter 1:10-12.

By prophets, Peter is referring primarily to Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and 12 Minor Prophets (Hosea to Malachi). What did the prophets do for us (1:10-11)? Read Isaiah 52:13-53:12. How does this passage reflect the message of Jesus in 1 Peter?

Read Luke 24:13-35. How does Jesus reveal himself to his disciples, and what does he show them about who he is? Reflecting upon this, what do you think Peter means in 1 Peter 1:10-11?  Whom did the prophets serve (1 Peter 1:12)? How do we carry on the prophetic tradition today?

When Peter uses the term “gospel,” he is referring to the “good news” that Jesus has come to suffer, die, and be raised again for humanity’s sin so that each of us may be saved and have eternal relationship with God (John 3:16-17). How does the gospel endure today-and what phrase does Peter use to not his excitement about the message (1:12)? Do you anticipate the message of Jesus this way? Do you share it like it’s important? If not, how can you change your approach?

Reflect and pray through these questions throughout your week.
